Significant support is needed for all Pacific peoples to be digitally included, according to a new qualitative research report, Digital Inclusion User Insights — Pacific Peoples, by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA).
The report highlights the issues that impact some Pacific peoples’ ability to easily and confidently use the internet and digital services.
Importantly, it highlights five key findings for government and non-government organisations to consider in order to improve digital inclusion for Pacific peoples in New Zealand:
- Pacific peoples’ input into the design of services is critical
- cost is a barrier
- non-digital access to government services is vital
- digital skills training is needed
- Pacific peoples are needed in technology careers.
